Monies raised through property tax are used to pay for local services, such as road maintenance and other public infrustructure, public schools, libraries, law enforcement, as well as local access to State services
Property Taxes are committed and a tax bill is mailed out in August/September each year after the Assessors receive the county, school and municipal budgets. Payment is due by December 31, after which any outstanding balances will become interest baring. Taxes that remain unpaid for 8-12 months will have a lien will be placed against the property. The lien will be discharged once the outstanding tax, interest and fees are paid in full for that year.
Real Estate and Personal Property Tax payments can be made with the Tax Collector in person during regular hours, by using the drop slot at the town hall, online (see link above), by mail or over the phone anytime throughout the year. Cash, check and credit cards accepted (a 2.5% processing fee is added to all credit/debit card payments ).
Please note: PAST DUE taxes accrue interest. If you are trying to pay past due taxes in full, please contact the Tax Collector for an accurate balance. Any additional funds, above what is due on the date of receipt, will be applied to the following year as a prepayment.
